The 1st San Marino Historic Formula One Grand Prix of San Marino was presented on Thursday 12 April at the San Marino Stadium Service Tower, the first round of the FIA Masters Historic Championship which will take place from April 20 to 22 at the Enzo e Dino Ferrari racetrack as part of the first edition of MotorLegendFestival.
This is the official return, after 12 years of absence, of the F1, although historic, in Imola under the banner of the Repubblica del Titano.
The race will take place on Saturday and Sunday and will see the presence of over thirty single-seater of the highest category of the ’70s and’ 80s powered by the engine Cosworth DFV and driven by the great protagonists of the championship.
The Secretary of State for Education and Sport Marco Podeschi wanted to underline the close relationship between San Marino, the racetrack and the organizers of the event: “For us, that we have engines in the blood, is an important opportunity to restart a history and reinforce the collaboration that will allow us to continue to be a point of reference in the world of motorsport. We tried already this year to bring part of these cars and their drivers on our roads for a fashion show but technical times were lacking. The appointment is only postponed to the next editions of MotorLegendFestival because I believe that this event, as already happened with RallyLegend, is able to involve a large number of fans and tourists in our Republic. We must not forget that we are inside the MotorValley, where there is the world excellence of the motorsports. For this reason we are convinced that the 1st Grand Prix Historic Formula One of San Marino and MotorLegendFestival can help even more to transmit the values and culture of motorsport “.
Great satisfaction was leaked by the words of FAMS president Paolo Valli: “The San Marino Grand Prix and MotorLegendFestival are a source of pride for our Federation, which is part of the FIA, to demonstrate its international dimension. I hope the event will replicate the success of RallyLegend, which has now become a staple in the world of rally for the past sixteen years. As a Federation we are enthusiastic about the initiative “.
Also present at the conference the president of Formula Imola, Uberto Selvatico Estense and the organizers of MotorLegendFestival, Vito Piarulli, General Organizer, and Andrea Gallignani, Managing Director.
Selvatico Estense wanted to emphasize the great effort that the Imola racetrack has operated in recent years to return to the international motoring world: “This event, that in addition to the Grand Prix will host other prestigious races of the FIA Masters Historic Championship, will allow the public to breathe the atmosphere and the culture of great events. Imola will field all of its organizational machinery of over 200 people to ensure the MotorLegendFestival the right structure. Recently we have obtained a new homologation by the FIA in homage to the latest safety regulations. So who in the next weekend will come to Imola, will find a modern and up to date and I think will take part in a big party “.
Vito Piarulli, the organizer of MotorLegendFestival, confessed that this event is the result of a dream: “I was passionate about it because I believe, as RallyLegend done in these past years, even the car and motorbike sector can involve and attract a large number of enthusiasts. In this first edition we tried to mark the three days of fun and culture of motorsport. There will be competitions with over three hundred members but also moments in which the public will be able to hear from the direct protagonists the stories of a near past that are still imprinted in the memory. We will have cars and important drivers. The organizational effort was titanic; we are honored to have immediately met the support of both the Republic of San Marino, which hosts RallyLegend since the first edition, and the Imola racetrack with whom we have found the agreement without problems, enthusiastically adhering to the project “.
Andrea Gallignani, managing director of MotorLegend, recalled how it was not difficult to involve important names and brands in the show: “The fact that the FIA Masters Historic Championship has just joined our proposal means that the road taken is the right one. It is the most important international championship for the F.1, the Sport and tourism cars from the 60s to almost our days. The involvement of Ferrari Corse Clienti with XX Programs and F.1 Customers and of Martini & Rossi who chose MotorLegendFestival to celebrate their fiftieth anniversary are other reasons for satisfaction as well as being able to draw the attention of owners of many cars and motorcycles that have marked an era. Just today we have the confirmation that there will also be the Lotus 25 with which Jim Clark won the Imola Grand Prix on 21st April 1963, a race that was not valid at the time for the F.1 championship “.
